Protecting a fragile Breton ecosystem through international solidarity

For wetlands like the Canut peatland in Saint-Thurial (Ille-et-Vilaine), foot traffic caused by the public accelerates erosion and directly threatens biodiversity. The Semeurs association, led by students from ESCD 3A in Rennes, is responding by deploying the "ReAccion" project in partnership with the NGO TECHO Paraguay and the Collectivité Eau du Bassin Rennais (CEBR). Built on a strong principle of international reciprocity following a first mission in the slums of Asunción (Paraguay), this ecological transition and social diversity initiative connects young volunteers from both continents through a local impact project.

An elevated ecological structure to protect biodiversity

The operational core of the project involves building an elevated wooden boardwalk within the Chèze-Canut peatland. This new infrastructure channels visitor flows and stops destructive foot traffic while maintaining educational access to the natural site. Support from the Veolia Foundation funds the purchase of eco-friendly raw materials (timber, hardware) and technical supervision for the construction site.

A dynamic of mutual learning and professional integration

Over a three-week period, the construction site actively mobilizes 19 participants: young French individuals, five Paraguayan volunteers, and nine integration workers supported by the Études et Chantiers Bretagne Pays de la Loire association. This cultural and social mix is enhanced by hands-on technical training and structured exchanges (language workshops, environmental debates), fostering skill acquisition and professional integration. At the end of the project, a documentary and a public event will showcase this model of committed cooperation.
