For populations in rural areas or disadvantaged neighborhoods in Peru, access to basic medical care remains a daily challenge. The Sol'Su association (International Solidarity of Sorbonne University) aims to provide solutions, in collaboration with Université Paris Cité and the local NGO Meraki Perú. The "Pérou en Partage" project, recognized at the fondation Veolia 2025 Student Solidarity Award, tackles this issue.
Managed by ten second-year medical and dentistry students, it reflects the diversity and dynamism of Parisian healthcare programs. The team mobilized its own resources through various local fundraising actions to bring this demanding field mission to life.
A targeted medical intervention between the capital and isolated provinces
The mission operates across several key areas of the country that present severe healthcare disparities: the capital city of Lima, the mountainous regions of Ancash, and the isolated rural village of Honoria. Support from the fondation Veolia funds the purchase and distribution of essential medicines and heavy medical equipment, including oxygen therapy supplies to meet immediate and vital needs.
Transmitting skills and sustaining healthcare impact
Beyond providing physical supplies and free consultations to the most vulnerable local populations, the project prioritizes a long-term approach. The students run health prevention workshops tailored to the residents and deliver focused training sessions to more than twenty local healthcare professionals and caregivers. This key transfer of skills ensures the continuity of care and community autonomy long after the field mission has concluded.
