Just two weeks after the inauguration of a Veoliaforce hub in Rabat, Morocco, the first Veolia Foundation volunteers were deployed alongside the Moroccan Red Crescent to train personnel in setting up and operating an Aquaforce 2000 mobile water treatment unit.
The ink on the agreement signed in early July with the Moroccan Red Crescent (MRC) was barely dry before the partnership yielded concrete results. On July 22 and 23 in Skhirat, 18 staff members from the Moroccan Red Crescent took part in field training delivered by Veolia Foundation volunteers. The objective: to enable them to independently deploy the Aquaforce 2000—the mobile water purification unit developed by the Veolia Foundation to respond to humanitarian emergencies.
A Concrete Handover: The Power of Skills Sponsorship
Among the trainers were Veoliaforce experts who had undergone training in early July during the launch of the regional Veoliaforce hub. Karima Belghali, Dikra El Ghazi, Samir El Aissate, Ikram Benaboud, and Laurent Drouet—employees from Veolia's Africa Middle East zone—were deployed through skills sponsorship. They poured their energy into wholeheartedly fulfilling their roles as relay trainers for their counterparts at the MRC.
Two complementary workshops provided a balance of technical instruction and chemistry:
Full operational chain workshop: covering everything from unit assembly and disassembly to the drinking water production phase.
Laboratory & water quality workshop: dedicated to physical-chemical and bacteriological analysis to guarantee the safety of drinking water supplied to crisis-affected populations.
Local Synergy and Collective Mobilization
This first operational mission demonstrated the strong local roots of the Veoliaforce hub, with all regional Veolia teams lending a hand:
Teams from Amanor stepped up to manage the transport and equipment disassembly operations.
Teams from Redal provided site health & safety support as well as the water supply needed for technical testing.
By consolidating local operational expertise, the AME regional Veoliaforce hub confirms its core mission: serving as a center of expertise in water and sanitation for vulnerable communities.
