With the boom in tourism, waste management and the preservation of world heritage require new ecological models. In partnership with the local NGO Green Anhui and the Chinese Ministry of Ecology, this initiative tackles plastic pollution at its source in the heart of Anhui Province.
Structuring Collection and Raising Public Awareness in the Village
The first phase of the project builds an operational program centered on plastic management around Mount Huangshan. The grant from the fondation Veolia funds the modernization of existing sorting stations, the installation of collection points in high-traffic tourist areas, and the creation of a pilot recycling site visible to the public. Developed in coordination with shopkeepers, accommodations, and informal waste collectors, this network is paired with public mobilization tools, such as educational pathways, themed exhibitions, and the creation of an "ecological passport" for visitors.
Expanding to Skills-Based Sponsorship and Sustainable Management
Beyond waste management, the project is designed to expand into more complex environmental challenges by leveraging the technical expertise of Veolia employees through skills-based sponsorship. Future phases include interventions by Veolia WaterTech teams to optimize wastewater treatment under tourist pressure. Finally, a strategic advisory component will study the implementation of nature-based solutions to restore local wetlands and safeguard the region's biodiversity.
